Athens, Greece, has emerged as one of the top ten cities favored by Delta Air Lines’ customers for summer travel in 2024.
The airline revealed this in its second annual list of most-searched international destinations, based on U.S. searches from November 1, 2023, to March 18, 2024, for travel between May and August 2024.
Athens saw a remarkable 248 percent increase in searches from the previous year, placing it fourth on the list. This surge highlights a growing interest among U.S. travellers in experiencing the rich cultural offerings of the Greek capital.
Leading the list is London, followed by Paris and Rome. Other popular destinations include Cancún in fifth place, Amsterdam in sixth, and Tokyo in seventh. New additions to the list this year are Dublin, Barcelona, and Vancouver, Canada.
According to Delta, searches for the top 10 international destinations have increased by over 150 percent compared to 2023. This trend reflects a strong demand for international travel, further evidenced by the airline’s record-breaking sales days this calendar year.
Athens' rising popularity is also supported by a recent ForwardKeys report, which identifies the city as one of Europe’s most attractive destinations for 2024. The city’s rich history, vibrant daily life, and diverse activities for all ages make it a top choice for travelers. Additionally, British tourists are increasingly selecting Athens for its affordable vacation options.
