Bydgoszcz, Poland - In an exciting pole vault competition at the Irena Szewinska Memorial, Emmanouil Karalis of Greece captured the headlines with a standout performance.

The 23-year-old Karalis cleared a massive personal best and new Greek national record of 5.92m, finishing in second place behind world silver medalist EJ Obiena of the Philippines.

The Greek national record in the pole vault now stands next to the name of the 25-year-old Emmanouil Karalis, as at the meeting in Bydgoszcz he managed to clear 5.92m and thus improve the 5.91m that Costas Filippidis had held since July 4, 2015.

Just like in Rome, in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz as well, Karalis won the silver medal, as the Filipino Ernest Obiena was first with 5.97m. Both athletes also attempted 6.02m without success.

At the same meeting, Christos Frantzeskakis finished 4th in the hammer throw with a throw of 74.82m.
