During a visit to a local cafe, Erdogan enjoyed a traditional Greek frappe, drawing considerable attention from Turkish media and commentators.
Reports from Istanbul shared that the Turkish president’s choice of beverage sparked lively discussions among Turkish journalists. Many were quick to note the cultural significance, remarking that Erdogan, often seen as a defender of Turkish traditions, chose to savour a Greek coffee drink. This small act did not go unnoticed, particularly given the complex history between the two nations.
The visit to the cafe was an informal stop during Erdogan’s busy schedule. According to Kostidis, the workers at the shop were initially anxious about serving the president, eager to ensure that everything was perfect. The tension quickly turned into a more relaxed atmosphere as Erdogan interacted with the employees, who were clearly thrilled by the encounter.
In a moment that has since been widely shared, Erdogan praised the employee who prepared his frappe. “I kiss your eyes too,” Erdogan said warmly, using a common Turkish expression of gratitude. He then engaged in a brief exchange with the worker, who proudly confirmed that they were the one who made the drink.
“You? So you know the frappe!” Erdogan remarked with a smile, to which the employee responded, “Yes.” The president continued, “Congratulations, you made it great!” The employee, beaming, replied, “Enjoy it!”
