Nicosia promptly addressed Turkey’s recent provocations. Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis informed the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that any prospective agreement between Turkey and Syria, being neighboring coastal countries, must adhere to international law, particularly the customary international law of the sea as delineated in UNCLOS, and acknowledge the rights of the Republic of Cyprus in the region.

In reaction to Turkish media reports, Mr. Letymbiotis stressed that they are “closely monitoring developments and consistently evaluating the situation from the outset.”

He declared, “Any attempt to challenge, manipulate, or disregard the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus constitutes a violation of International Law, and the Republic of Cyprus will utilize all available measures at both international and European levels.”

Additionally, Mr. Letymbiotis mentioned that President Nikos Christodoulides has collaborated with Greece’s Prime Minister to brief EU leaders on potential Turkish actions, thereby securing support from Europe.
