Greece shares sixth place with Australia in the 2025 Henley Passport Index, granting its citizens visa-free access to 189 destinations worldwide.

The index, a ranking of passport strength based on visa-free travel, places Singapore at the top with access to a record 195 destinations. Japan secures the second spot with access to 193 destinations, including newly reinstated visa-free travel to China.

European countries dominate the top ranks, highlighting the power of the Schengen Area. Germany, Italy, Spain, France, and Finland, along with South Korea, share third place with access to 192 destinations. Seven more EU nations—Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden—follow in fourth place with 191 destinations. The UK, Belgium, New Zealand, Portugal, and Switzerland round out the top five, offering access to 190 destinations.

The Henley Passport Index, compiled by London-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & Partners, uses exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Now in its 20th year, it analyzes the travel freedoms afforded by 199 different passports across 227 destinations.

The UAE showed impressive growth, climbing 32 places to tenth with access to 185 destinations, a gain of 72 since 2015. China also significantly improved its ranking, moving from 94th in 2015 to 60th in 2025.

However, several countries saw their passport power decline. The US dropped seven spots to ninth, while Venezuela experienced the steepest fall. Canada also lost ground, dropping three places. Vanuatu and the UK also declined, with the UK falling from first to fifth over the past decade. Afghanistan holds the last position, with access to only 26 destinations.
