Greece reported the lowest number of new coronavirus cases since March 12, a sign that the curve is flattening.

However, this could easily be reversed if citizens do not continue to adhere to strict social distancing measures and the country's lockdown.

*The table below indicates social distancing and self-isolation are effective ways to slow the spread of Covid-19. At the time of writing, Italy has 132,547 cases, Spain has 136,675 and Greece has 1,755.

Of these, 90 are intubated in Intensive Care Units.

The death toll has also risen to 79.

A total of 26,143 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Greece.

“I think it’s clear to us that in the past few days there is a slowdown and we expect to see a reduction, which means the measures are showing results,” said Health Ministry spokesperson and infectious diseases expert Professor Sotiris Tsiodras.

Greece also extended the lockdown until Monday, April 27.

Greece went into lockdown and introduced its non-essential movement ban on March 23.

The Greek lockdown explained: the do’s and don’t’s

“The battle we are waging is a difficult one and the worst mistake we can do is underestimating the enemy so it’s important to listen to experts and avoid any movement unless absolutely necessary,” Deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias said.

Despite the burden of coronavirus on already-overwhelmed health services, Tsiodras stated that Greeks were still volunteering and coming forward to help with other medical emergencies. At the daily coronavirus briefing, he thanked Savvas, a man from northern Greece, and Andreas, from Crete, who both had given bone marrow samples to assist people in need.
