Investigation Launched into Mass Food Poisoning at Children's Camp in Attica

Authorities in Athens have launched an investigation into a suspected food poisoning incident at a children's camp in Attica.

The probe follows reports that roughly 100 children, aged 6 to 12, experienced symptoms of illness.

The investigation, ordered by the head of the public prosecutor's office, aims to determine the cause of the illness and whether criminal negligence played a role in the preparation or handling of food meant for public consumption.

Camp officials maintain the children are suffering from viral gastroenteritis, a common stomach bug. Several children have been hospitalised in Athens with severe stomach issues and high fevers, symptoms consistent with gastroenteritis.

However, some parents remain unconvinced and suspect food or water poisoning may be the culprit. Camp management denies this possibility.

The investigation is expected to shed light on the cause of the outbreak and hold those responsible accountable if negligence is proven.
