The Greek National Polo Team pulled off a tremendous comeback in their 3rd Place game against Italy at the FINA World League Super-Final and earned the bronze medal at the competition. After being down 6-1 by the second period, Greece went on a 10-1 run to defeat Italy 11-7!

Today’s game started similar to Greece’s semi-finals against the United States. Greece went down early and midway through the second quarter, Italy was ahead 6-1. Through their compact defense and composure on the offensive end, Greece shutout the Italians and scored 4 goals to end the half, decreasing the deficit to one. In the second half, Greece dominated the game keeping Italy to only one goal while the Galanolefki scored SIX goals! Greece completed a 10-1 comeback run from second quarter to defeat Italy 11-7 and win the bronze medal at this year’s World League Super-Final. Kolomvos led Greece with 3 goals while Gounas and Genidounias each added 2 goals.

This is another great achievement by the Greek National Water Polo Team. For the third straight competition, Greece finished in the top 4 after earning the bronze medal at the World Aquatics Championships in Kazan and 4th at the European Championships in Belgrade. After yet another successful campaign at a major tournament, the National Team remains one of the favourites to win a medal at this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio.
