For the fifth year running Greek Australian Radio Station 2MM held a radiothon and raised much needed funds to purchase necessities to support the underprivileged who are suffering due to the economic crisis in Greece.
The fundraising radiothon took place on the 13th of April and the generosity of the Greek diaspora all across Australia helped raise 66 thousand dollars. 2MM have received over 62 thousand dollars of the donations so far and this money was used to purchase medical equipment, medicine and food.
Manager of 2MM Radio Yiannis Meravoglou, is currently making his way across the country, personally helping hand out the food and medical supplies to the much needed charities and organisations they have chosen to help this year.
Yiannis first stop was on June 27th, where he was welcomed with open arms while handing out medical equipment for the islands of Nisyros, Tilos and Patmos.
Next stop was Patras, where 2MM gave away more medical supplies and basic necessities to relieve and assist underprivileged kids in the area and Yiannis was praised by all the locals. First week of July, Yiannis headed to Moni Panagias Douraxanis in Ioannina and had a touching moment when he met Father Athanasios- the founder of the monastery, which is now a complex housing orphans and children in need.
Father Athanasios has been struggling since 1974 to care for hundreds of kids in need and was overcome with emotion when Yiannis delivered a large supply of food for the children who are currently in his care.
