As of this summer in Greece, tax inspectors will be paying a visit to businesses across tourist destinations in an effort to clamp down on tax evasion.

The announcement, made by the General Secretariat of Public Revenue, will see over 30,000 preventative checks through tax offices and on-site inspections on businesses throughout the country, with a particular focus on restaurants, bars, hotels and retail outlets in tourist areas.

According to the General Secretariat, these inspections are part of government policy to increase revenue and improve tax compliance and will run until September 30.
