Chinese companies in Greece present their plans to government

Chinese companies currently operating in Greece met with Deputy Economy Minister Stergios Pitsiorlas on Monday, where they presented their future investment and operational plans.

Pitsiorlas confirmed the creation of a permanent communications platform to connect Greek authorities with the Chinese companies already active in the country to facilitate their operation and support new investment initiatives.

Chinese interest in Greece has been on the rise, with shipping giant COSCO leading the charge when it purchased half of Pireaus port authority with the ambition of transforming it into one of the world’s most advanced shipping hubs.

Pitsiorlas reiterated the importance of the relationship with China saying that recent investments by COSCO in Piraeus and the importance of the port in the marine Silk Route will lead to a new round of investments in the economy, cruise, light manufacturing, ship repairing, international distribution and transport and tourism.

Chinese companies that participated through their representatives at the meeting were China New Era Group, PCT, Air China, Huawei, ZTE, China Development Bank, China Three Gorges Corporation, Cosco Shipping, China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Co. Greece, CCS Greece, Avic Ship Greece και Rongfeng Holding Group.

The meeting was organised jointly by the ministry of economy, Enterprise Greece, the Trade Office of the Chinese embassy in Greece and the Chinese Union of Businesses in Greece. China’s Ambassador to Greece Zou Xiaoli participated in the meeting.
