95th Annual Kytherian Ball of Sydney

This year the Kytherian community of Sydney celebrated 95 years since the first annual Kytherian Ball took place back in 1922. The beautiful and successful evening was filled with dancing, dining and stunning debutantes who entertained their guests all evening with their remarkable routines.

The traditional event began as a way of uniting Kytherians' who had migrated to Australia back in the 1910's and 1920's.  The Kytherian Brotherhood combined an evening of socialising and charity work with elements of their heritage and traditional island dances and songs.

Over the last 95 years, the Kytherian Ball continues to give away thousands of dollars each year to a number of charities including Estia, the Diabetes and Heart Foundation, as well as many children's foundations.

The Kytherian Ball Committee, powered by the President of the Association, Dr Victor Kepreotis, as well as the tireless working ladies Kathy Samios, Matina Samios, Paula Giaouris, Rene Samios, Mary Moutzouris, Vicky Conomos, Esther Calligeros, Helen Kanaris and Erenie Bourdaniotis, spend an entire year organising the Annual Ball, which includes many hours and meetings involved in selecting and inviting the Guest of Honour and preparing the debutantes and their partners as well as selecting the page boys and flower girls.

The Ball Committee’s hard work and dedication is highlighted on the night, where the debutanites and their partners are presented to society before role models, their family and friends- who all enjoyed a spectacular evening.

This year there were 9 debutantes and their partners who rehearsed their great Greek dance routines tirelessly and performed beautifully on the evening.

They have now formed lifelong friendships and all agree it was a special, touching and unforgettable event that will remain with them forever.

The gracious Matron of Honour was Catherine Economos and Professor Harry George Poulos was this year’s guest of honour, Mr Poulos is a civil engineer and international soil behaviour expert, who has worked on international projects, including work in Greece and Dubai.
