Greece set to break record with 32 million international visitors in 2018

Greece’s Tourism Minister, Elena Kountoura, told media on Thursday that she expects the number of international tourist arrivals to Greece this year to exceed the previous record of 30.5 million (including cruise arrivals) in 2017.

“If we managed to attract 30.5 million tourists last year, with a 20 percent increase in early bookings and a five percent increase in flights (compared to the previous year), my estimation for 2018 is that Greece will see at least 1.5 million more visitors,” said Minister Kountoura.

This is due to the fact that Greece is now starting to become an all year round destination, with March through to November being great months to travel around the islands and mainland.

Kountoura also said that British leisure travel group TUI, have an invested half a billion euros on Crete and another 5 billion for 10 very large projects that are in progress, which is set to attract more tourists to the area.
