The President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic welcomed the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos in Zagreb on Tuesday and held a dinner in his honour after their joint press conference.

In his dinner address, the Greek President spoke of the joint vision of Greece and Croatia for European unification and integration, adding that the two goals are the more urgent as European Parliamentary elections are approaching and raising challenging issues as to the future of the EU.

Pavlopoulos went on to say that every conscientious European ought to understand that both unification and integration of the EU are necessary for its planetary role, especially in defending principles and values such as peace, humanitarianism, solidarity, democracy and justice, and especially social justice.

The Greek president noted that three aspects comprise the foundation of these goals: the EU’s joint external policy and the policy of security; growth in the EU and the eurozone; and defending the European rule of law and social state.

During his joint press conference with Grabar-Kitarovic, Pavlopoulos sent a message to Turkey, FYROM, and Albania that their accession to the European Union is conditional on their full respect of the European acquis and of international law.
