To celebrate the festive period of Chinese New Year, Athens International Airport from February 5th-20th will be welcoming the Greek capital’s Chinese visitors with the best of wishes and a series of activities.

According to the Chinese calendar, this year is the “Year of the Pig”, emphasising family and home.

To launch the Chinese New Year festivities, on Wednesday Athens International Airport (AIA) and Air China jointly held an event at the airport, offering a taste of China’s culture, music, dance and flavours. Following the Chinese tradition, gifts were offered to all arriving and departing passengers.

“We’re happy to see that AIA always spares big efforts to make Athens International Airport more and more Chinese-friendly,”  the General Manager Air China, Fan Hyun stated.

AIA’s new Pig Mascot which was named following a vote undertaken by Air China passengers, “Lucky Zhu” (“Zhū lèlè” – “Happy Pig”), will be at the airport throughout the festive period welcoming all passengers to and from China.

“The lovely Piggy mascot will bring good lucks to every traveler, making them feel like home. Big thanks to AIA for making Athens one of the most popular destinations of Chinese tourists and I wish a big growth of Chinese arrival in the year of the Pig,” he continued.

Director of Communications and Marketing at AIA Ioanna Papadopoulou, wished all of them [visitors from China] a Year of the Pig full of happy moments, and… lots of travels to Athens.”
