Lesvos goes Retro for Gen Next Party

Lesvos Disco3

Lesvos Disco3

What do you get when you combine a range of Lesvian associations, a brilliant Lesvos disc jockey, island food and Mytilenean House – one big party and many happy faces.

Lesvos is, of course, the third biggest Greek island, the fourth if you include Cyprus, with a rich history culturally in Greece and in the diaspora.

NSW is arguably the home of the islanders outside of Lesvos, with an estimated three thousand people with some form of heritage from the island.

To service these numbers, there are various organisations that have co-existed, including:

Mytilenian Brotherhood of Sydney NSW, the Progressive Community of Agiasos and the Antissan Association, as well as Pan- Lesvian Federation of Australia.

With music being pumped by Stantheman, one of finest disc jockeys in Sydney and a crowd favourite over the years for the broader community, this Saturday will be an event to remember.

Never before have the associations officially come together in this way, certainly not to disco tunes and hip shaking rather than as a xoro! All of the associations are anticipating a great night busting out the moves.

“It’s been a busy year for the Mytilenean Brotherhood, and every other association connected to Lesvos. To have all the groups together under one roof is really special.” Enthused the President of the Mytilenean Brotherhood, Peter Psomas.

Mytilenean House will be packed and it shows a united island with plenty of good times ahead, echoed Dimitris Barmakellis, President of the Pan-Lesvian national federation and Vice-President of the Mytilenean Brotherhood. Jim also stressed that the hard work of those who have come before in the previous generations and that “we need to keep supporting each other, unifying all the Lesvians and bringing the next generation of people together.”

Greg Georgantis who is from the Agiasos’ Younger Generation, a subcommittee of the Progressive Community of Agiasos, is looking forward to seeing the kids, younger generation in attendance. “One of the reasons I am involved is to create a sense of belonging, especially for the younger people.”

Mytilenean House will be rocking socks off as many revisit the hits of the past and an expected gathering of 300 – 400 people from Lesvos and other parts of the Greek world.

Trish Loukas from the Antissan Committee explained to Greek City Times, it will be somewhat like “reliving our youth at the place where it all started – Mytilenean House! Get ready for a big night of dancing and reuniting.”
