Temperatures are set to soar across Greece this weekend, as the atmospheric instability gradually subsides, the weather service of the National Observatory of Athens, meteo.gr, said on Friday.
Very hot air masses are expected to spread from Africa to Europe on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 36-37C in the plains of Thessaly, while on Sunday they will rise further, reaching 39C in Thessaly.
Athens, Kalamata, Thessaloniki, Patra and some of the islands are also expected to reach over 35C.
The high temperatures are expected to start declining from Monday, starting from the north, whereas the countries of Western Europe will continue to experience a heatwave.
