Powerful storms raged over Halkidiki last night leaving 6 people dead and over 20 injured as trees toppled, power was knocked out and roads were blocked.

All the victims were tourists and among the dead was an 8-year-old child and 2-year-old toddler, who were all on holidays on Halkidiki, which is a very popular summer destination in Greece.

Police confirmed the victims were a 54-year-old woman and her 8-year-old son from Romania, who were having dinner in a taverna at Nea Plagia, a Russian man and his 2-year-old son who were hit by a tree and an elderly couple from the Czech Republic.

Greek authorities said the deaths occurred late evening in three separate incidents. High winds overturned cars, trees toppled over, and homes were flooded.

Reports claim 30 people were also rescued from buildings due to the bad weather and that personnel outside the affected region were on standby in case more rescues were needed.
