US renews tariff-free status for Greek products

Greece’s Foreign Affairs Ministry announced on Monday that the US will maintain the tariff-free status on a variety of imported products from Greece.

In its announcement the Ministry said that the US Department of Commerce on February 15, renewed Greece's exemption from US tariffs on the EU for specific food products, including Greek oil and olive-related products, cheese, wines, and plum juice.

The Ministry insisted the Mitsotakis government was continuing its efforts to also clear the tariffs on peaches, which have been burdened with an excessive import duty by the US Department of Commerce decision last October.

Greece repeatedly emphasised that its agri-food sector has been disproportionately affected, and that measures are needed to mitigate the negative impact and to formulate a positive trade agenda with the US, said the Ministry.
