From Thursday, gatherings of more than 10 people in public spaces are banned in Greece, according to the new stricter measures announced by Civil Protection Deputy Minister, Nikos Hardalias.
“Movement outside of the home must be limited to the absolute minimum and only for vital needs,” Hardalias, told journalists.
Those who violate the new measures would face a 1,000 euro fine.
To try to slow down the spread of coronavirus, the Greek government announced that most retails outlets will be shut down as of Wednesday the 18th March, with the exception of supermarkets, pharmacies and other businesses. The country also tightened its borders, restricting entry to only Greeks and EU citizens.
Greece reported a rise in the number of coronavirus cases on Wednesday by 31, bringing the total to 418. It has also reported five deaths.
Health Ministry spokesperson and infectious diseases expert Professor Sotiris Tsiodras, urged everyone to continue to take all the necessary safety measures.
