Crowds ‘flood’ Monastiraki and Akropoli

The “new normal” for Greek citizens begun, after the partial lifting of the restrictive measures imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus, 42 days ago.

Greeks seized this ‘freedom’ and took to the streets of Athens, without messaging ‘13033’ or carrying the necessary movement permit.

Images taken in Monastiraki and Akropoli on Monday, show streets full of Athenians enjoying the beautiful spring day.

During Monday’s daily briefing, Health Ministry spokesperson and infectious diseases expert, Professor Sotiris Tsiodras announced 6 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Greece in the last 24 hours, and 2 new deaths.

The total Covid-19 infections in Greece stands at 2,632.

Deaths total 146 since the start of the outbreak, while 35 patients are being treated in Intensive Care Units.

Tsiodras stressed that “the pandemic is under control in our country and it is very important to understand that the next 15 days are critical.”

Some 80,951 Covid-19 diagnostic tests have been carried out in Greece since the start of the outbreak.
