Following the five-day heatwave that broke records for mid-May, Thessaloniki was hit with heavy rain and wild weather on Thursday.
The fire service received at least 50 calls to pump water out of basement homes and businesses in the port of Thessaloniki.
As you can see in the video recorded by GRTimes.gr, roads turned into rivers and some sidewalks became flooded. Citizens walking even with umbrellas, were forced to go under cover to avoid being soaked.
The heavy rain also caused two tractor-trailer trucks to skid and jackknife in two separate incidents in the area of Derveni, causing traffic jams until the road was cleared.
