Savvas Theodoridis, the all-time best goalkeeper in Olympiacos’ history, passed away on Monday aged 85.
The Honorary President of Olympiacos was hospitalised in the intensive care unit at Athens’ Sotiria Hospital a few days ago.
He had been battling serious health issues for many years however he had managed to stand up and emerge victorious. And he did not stop for one moment to be on the side of his favourite team, both in Greece and abroad.
Savvas Theodoridis was born on February 18, 1935 in Ambelokipi and started playing football from a young age.
He joined Olympiakos as a player in 1955 and he retired seven years later at the age of 27.

He is considered one of the most emblematic figures in Olympiacos, where he spent most of his life, always being on the side of all the players of the club.
“A great member of the Olympiacos family departed today. Savvas and I had a very special bond of love and mutual understanding, both in and out of the pitch. A man who, for decades, contributed the most to our club. I would like to express my deep condolences to his family and relatives. Savvas, you left us as a champion once again! May you find peace in the eternal seas,” said Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis.
“Standing always next to his beloved Olympiakos, he always offered his services from various positions, carrying out the duties of vice president and general manager. As such, he won among others seven domestic titles,” a statement from Olympiacos said.
