Demolition works at Hellinikon continue

By 1 year ago

Works at the “Hellinikon” airport are progressing rapidly, evident by images recently posted by Development and Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis.

The buildings that were once Arrivals and Departures, are now a thing of the past.

The main works will start in September, after the final decision of the Council of State for the Casino is issued.

The Hellinikon Project plans to turn a disused airport on the Athens coast into one of Europe’s biggest tourist resorts, three times the size of Monaco.

The area under the project comprises of 958 buildings. Some of those that will be preserved include the old former East Airport of Athens building, facilities of the Air Force, three churches, and facilities related to the water company (EYDAP), the Public Power Corporation, the tram, the Argyroupoli station metro and the so-called British hangar (pagoda), among others.
