The Municipality of Hydra will honor the Philhellenes from Italy who fought together with the Hydraeans during the Greek War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire.

The focus of the discussion was about Filitze Caserta who volunteered in naval battles against the Ottomans.

Reference was also made to another Italian philhellene, Joseph Kiape, who served as Secretary of Lazaros Kountouriotis and had a huge contribution to the 1824 circulation of the Hydra revolutionary newspaper, “The Friend of the Law”.
