European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas on Wednesday marked one year since his "memorable visit" to Evros.
Together with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel and European Parliament President David Sassoli, they took a helicopter tour of the Greek-Turkish border.
“One year today since the memorable visit of EU leaders to Evros to show that the EU stands shoulder to shoulder with Greece in managing migration. Europe’s external borders will be protected," he tweeted.
"High time for a common EU migration and asylum policy,” he added.
The visit was seen as a show of solidarity with Greece.
On March 1, 2020, Greece came under siege as Turkey tried to “asymmetrical” invade the country with the use of tens of thousands of illegal immigrants from Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Turkey had not only falsely told the illegal immigrants that Greece’s borders were open, but also facilitated the transportation of the illegal immigrants and utilised their army to try and tear down Greece’s border wall.
