On March 25, 2021, bridges and buildings in Massachusetts, will be illuminated with the colours of Greece, to commemorate the bicentennial of the Greek War of Independence.
Massachusetts is the most populous state in the New England region of the United States.
According to Greece’s Consul General in Boston, Stratos Efthymiou, five iconic bridges across the state, including the cable-stay Zakim Bridge and two landmarks will be illuminated in blue and white.
"The Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, wanting to honour Greece and the Greek-American community here, will illuminate bridges in the cities of Lowell, Worcester and Fall River, while other illuminations of public buildings are underway," he posted on Facebook.
"Warm thanks to Governor Charlie Baker, Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, New Hampshire Congressman Chris Pappas, Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis, State Senator Leonidas Raptakis, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, to all the Mayors and friends of Greece who responded to the initiative."
"Long live Greece! Long live March 25th! Long live freedom!" he concluded.
