Turkish NAVTEX for naval exercise with live fire near Rhodes

NAVTEX

Ankara provocatively issued a new NAVTEX, the international maritime navigational telex/notification system, for a ship participating in real-fire exercises on May 25.

The exercise, according to the NAVTEX, is to be conducted 11.5 nautical miles east of Faliraki, Rhodes.

It is reminded that the presence of Turkish fishing boats south of Crete, and specifically in the Greek coastal zone south of Gavdos, caused an alarm to the Greek authorities on Wednesday night and Thursday.

This is the first time that Turkish fishing vessels reach so far west in the south of Crete, and in fact within the coastal zone, in a move that is a violation of Greek rights in the Exclusive Economic Zone.
