Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with his Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly yesterday in Cairo following his meeting with President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, with both leaders pledging to extend economic and trade relations between the two countries.
The two leaders discussed their collaboration in the East Mediterranean and agreed to boost joint business projects in renewable energy sources, telecommunications, tourism, environmental protection and shipping.
Mitsotakis noted that despite the extent of economic collaborations, there is opportunity to expand them, and noted that Greek companies in Egypt have the know-how to contribute to infrastructural projects in Egypt.
Included in their discussion was the option of Greece acting as a transfer hub for Egypt’s energy exports, through the use of the upgraded liquefied natural gas (LNG) station at Revythoussa, off the west coast of Athens, or the floating LNG station being planned off Alexandroupolis, in northern Greece.
