A Turkish flagged freighter carrying 381 migrants that was sailing in international waters near Crete has anchored on Sunday morning near the port of Kos island, according to the Greek Shipping Ministry.

The news comes after the successful search and rescue operation of the vessel by Greek authorities in the eastern Mediterranean, where it was first spotted.

The 381 individuals were transferred to the port of Kos by an opens seas vessel where they safely disembarked.

A fifty-year old foreign national among the 381 passengers was taken by a coast guard rescue vessel and was transferred to the island of Karpathos where she was admitted to Karpathos hospital for first aid and later  discharged.
