Greece selling off former US Military Base in Crete

Greece is selling part of the former US military base in Heraklion, Crete through a public tender process which has already attracted three eligible buyers, said the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF).

After revealing the three short-listed applicants, the HRADF requested that two of the bidders raise their financial offers for the 85-acre plot in Gournes, which is set to be turned into a seaside tourist resort with an entertainment park.

The eligible investors who met the criteria of the tender process were the following, in alphabetical order:

1. DIMAND SA

2. REDS SA

3. VIVION INVESTMENTS Sàrl

The online auction will take place on Monday, December 6, 2021.

The real estate property of Gournes consists of a beachfront land plot of 345,567 sqm located 13km from the airport "Nikos Kazantzakis" and 16 km from Heraklion.

During the last 20 years, land plots neighbouring to the property have been developed into the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, the Cretaquarium Thalassocosmos, and the International Exhibition and Conference Centre of Crete, among others.

The property is also 16km from Herakleion and 20 km from the New International Airport expected to be developed at the Kastelli Village over the next five years.
