Union announces 24 hour strike for buses and trams in Athens

Athenians and visitors to the Greek capital are advised that buses and trams in Athens will not run today Wednesday 29 June, due to a 24-hour strike announced by the Athens Urban Transport Organization's (OASA) workers' union.

A protest gathering is also scheduled to be held at OASA's headquarters at 11:00 am.

The union says that OASA's tender with the long-distance coach service KTEL, which is privately operated, should not be extended for another year, as it "does not promote the public nature of urban transportation."
