The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) expressed concern over political issues and called stakeholders to show maturity and engage in dialogue.

In a declaration issued after the three-day meeting of its Federal Executive Council, the Afzal Butt group of PFUJ said freedom of the press will be the first casualty if the current situation was not amicably resolved.

It urged the stakeholders to learn lessons from the past as such conflicts had resulted in dictatorial regimes.

“The country cannot afford further economic deterioration due to prevailing political instability,” the PFUJ warned.

The declaration termed audio and video leaks “an intrusion into privacy” as well as gross violations of privacy laws and basic fundamental rights.
