New Democracy president Kyriakos Mitsotakis is touring the Dodecanese Islands before the June 25 elections. From Leros he sent a message of friendship to Turkey, stressing that "we are not doomed to be enemies."

Specifically, Mitsotakis said: "The country needs a stable government. ND must have a safe majority in the Parliament and it will have it. We would already have it if the electoral system of simple proportionality did not apply in the May 21 ballots. We would already have a stable government today."

"It doesn't matter, we will have it after the next election.

"From the Dodecanese and Leros I want to send a message of friendship to Turkey again. We are not doomed to be enemies to constantly have a climate of tension.

"But in order to resolve the one and only issue we have, the delimitation of the EEZ and continental shelf, this can only be resolved in a friendly relationship and on the basis of international law."
