Panathinaikos sign Kostas Antetokounmpo for two years

Kostas Antetokounmpo will continue his career at Panathinaikos. The Greek centre, who was released by Fenerbahçe, signed a two-year contract with the “greens” and is the team’s first transfer in the Halil Ergin Ataman era.

The 26-year-old centre last season had 7.7 points, five rebounds and one steal in 18 minutes of participation in the Turkish League (3 games) and 2.7 points in 7 minutes of participation in the EuroLeague in 14 games.

“Kostas Antetokounmpo was born on November 20, 1997 in Athens, he is 2.08m tall. and competes in position ‘5’.

“After his older brother, Giannis, was selected by the Bucks, in the 2013 NBA Draft, Kostas, together with his parents and his younger brother, Alexis, moved to the USA. He attended Dominican High School and as a sophomore led his team to the state championship.

“He played college basketball at the University of Dayton and averaged 5.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game in the 2017-18 season.

“He was selected 60th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and was subsequently traded to the Dallas Mavericks while also playing for their affiliate team, the Texas Legends. In 2019 he ‘moved’ to the Los Angeles Lakers and in his first year won the championship (2020).

“At the same time, he also played in their affiliate team, the South Bay Lakers, and in 38 games he was the team’s 5th scorer (14.1 points), third rebounder (7.8 points) and first blocker (1.3). He remained with the Lakers in the following season (2020-2021) splitting the year between NBA and G League.

“In July 2021 he signed with LDLC ASVEL with which he won the French championship and played in the Euroleague, where in 26 games he averaged 5.6 points and 2.7 rebounds.

“On October 14, 2022, he was announced by the Chicago Bulls and played for their affiliate, the Windy City Bulls, averaging 11.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in the G-League in 12 games.

“In December 2002 he returned to Europe for Fenerbahçe Beko. In the Euroleague he had 14 appearances with 2.7 points (14/17 two-pointers, 10/17 shots) on average. In the Turkish league, he had three appearances with an average of 7.7 points and 5 rebounds.

“Kostas Antetokounmpo competed with the National Youth Team in the B division of the 2016 European Under-20 Championship and won the bronze medal.

“He was selected in the pre-selection of the Greek Men’s National Team for the 2019 World Cup, participated in the Canadian Pre-Olympic tournament and competed in EuroBasket 2022 with our representative group.”
