Greek champion Militadis Tentoglou secured the gold medal in the men's long jump event at the European Games in Krakow on Saturday.

With a jump of 8.34 meters, he not only clinched victory for Greece but also earned maximum points for the country at the European Athletics Team Championships for the third time.

Tentoglou acknowledged the challenging weather conditions and lack of favorable wind, but he managed to rectify any errors from his earlier attempts and ended up with the winning leap.

Looking ahead, his main focus is on gradual improvement leading up to the World Championships.

Earlier this year, Tentoglou became the first male long jumper to win three successive European indoor titles with an 8.30-meter jump at the indoor European Championships in Istanbul. Having also claimed the title in 2019 and 2021, he currently holds the Olympic, European, and world indoor champion titles.

In addition to Tentoglou's success, Team Hellas, representing Greece, achieved more medals at the European Games. Emmanouil Karalis won silver in the men's pole vault with a height of 5.80 meters, while Konstantinos Dimitropoulos and Kelly Kydonaki secured bronze in taekwondo and karate, respectively. Brothers Dionysis and Stefanos Xenos both earned silver medals in different karate categories, and Georgia Xenou became the first medalist for Team Hellas in Krakow by winning bronze in karate.

Evangelia Platanioti and Sofia Malkogeorgou also contributed to the medal tally by winning bronze in artistic swimming with their duet performance.
