The works for constructing the new fence in Evros started a few days ago, which will be 35 km long between Psathades Didymoteicho and Kornofolia Soufliou.
The construction sites of the two contractors, TERNA and Intrakat, who took over with the signing of a contract last March, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the area of Fera, for the sum of 99.2 million euros to build the new section, have already been installed in Kornofolia.
Currently, local subcontractors are doing preliminary work concerning cleaning the area where the new deterrent barrier will be placed by cutting trees and shaping the areas next to the embankment and towards the area of the Greek bank of the river Evros.
Army and Border Guard patrols are carried out throughout the work to prevent illegal immigrants from entering.

The construction works of the new 35 km fence in Evros have started
The new project that has already started concerns constructing an Artificial Barrier and accompanying works along the Methori E/T from Psathades Didymoteicho to Kornofolia Soufliou to ensure public order and security.
Includes:
- new artificial barrier, 5 metres high, cemented into the ground at a depth of 6 metres
- the construction of 7 anti-ballistic observatories with armoured cabins.
- the maintenance and modernisation, and upgrading of the existing 4 EF and 4 OP of the Army
- the formation of surveillance roads and maintenance of the obstacles
- the construction of gate barriers construction
- of a new building of 300 m2 for border guard equipment and
- the repair/improvement of existing buildings and other infrastructure in the wider area of the project.
Environmental provisions are strictly observed in the construction of all projects, especially in Natura areas.
