Rhodes is in flames for the 10th day, with the destruction being incalculable. The island is in a state of emergency by the decision of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection.

Apart from the Municipal Unit of South Rhodes, which was affected by the devastating fire, it was decided to declare a state of emergency in the Municipal Units of Rhodes, Kallithea, Ialyssos, Petaloudon, Afantos and Archangelos.

Strong ground forces are operating in Rhodes, which this morning was reinforced with 40 firefighters and ten vehicles from Romania, while six aircraft, seven helicopters, of which two for their aerial coordination, operate periodically from the air.

It is noted that there was a fierce battle to contain the fire during the night.

At the same time, the battle between individual animal-loving volunteers and the human members of the Rhodes Dog Kennel-Animal Welfare Association to save as many animals as possible continues.

From the first moment the fires started, these people were there, as they always do, and they managed to make countless rescues at the risk of even their own lives.

There is great concern for the deer, the symbol of the island. The photos doing the rounds on the internet are heartbreaking. On the other hand, those who managed and escaped the flames are still at risk of hunger and thirst as their natural environment has been destroyed.

To find food and water, the deer descend into residential areas, even the yards of houses.

The photos of volunteer Zoe Bali, who, together with Lina Mastoridis and Lia Vergoulia, filled their cars with food and water and went and left them for the animals to find, make us smile and feel optimistic through it all the black of nature.
