When Sinead O'Connor sang in Greece

Sinead O'Connor in Greece 2009

One of the biggest surprises in the summer of 2009 was the appearance of Sinead O'Connor in Greece. On the evening of June 12th, those at the Karaiskaki stadium experienced a tremendous live show as the stage was flooded with emotion from the unique voice of Sinead O'Connor! Filippos Pliatsikas, Maraveyas Illegal and the American artist Gordon Gano join her.

With her characteristic shaved head, the singer appeared on stage shortly after Kostis Maravejas and his band and moved with her unique voice and music. Performing hits such as “Nothing Compares 2 U”, which made her world-famous, the singer from Ireland left an unforgettable impression on anyone lucky enough to hear her sing live that night.

Today, only days after the announcement of her death, we remember that night with some photos:

A few months earlier, in April 2009, Sinéad O'Connor spoke to ITN's Lucrezia Millarini about the reissue of her acclaimed second album; I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got. The album featured O'Connor's version of Prince's song “Nothing Compares 2 U”, which became a number-one hit in many countries.

The singer touched on various topics in her interview, including meeting Prince, the importance of freedom in performance, her collaborations, her open activism and protests, life on the road, and having children.
