Greece downs Jordan in FIBA World Cup campaign opener

Greece took down the Rondae Hollis-Jefferson-led Jordan team for a winning start in the FIBA Basketball World Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday evening, August 26.

With NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo skipping this year's world meet, Giannoulis Larentzakis took charge for the Greeks as he fired 19 points and three assists in the Group C action.

Thomas Walkup also stepped up with 13 points and seven assists while Ioannis Papapetrou added 13 markers and four boards.

Greece left Jordan in the dust in the fourth quarter, limiting the latter to just 11 points all the while scoring 26 of their own to pull away from a 66-60 ball game.

Hollis-Jefferson, who was TNT's import in the 2023 PBA Governors' Cup, carried the fight for the Jordanians, pouring 24 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.
The Greek squad will next face Team USA on Monday, August 28.
