Why is it called a “Super Blue Full Moon”?
A “super blue moon” is a full moon that occurs during the same calendar month. We have one full moon monthly and 12 full moons a year. But some years, every 2-3 years, the full moon visits the same month twice, and in total, we have 13 full moons that year.
The next super blue moon will be seen on May 31, 2026.
This year, It’s called pm August had two full moons. The first occurred on August 1 and the second on August 30, coinciding with a super full moon, which means the Moon is at its closest point in its orbit around Earth. There are usually only one or two supermoons per year.
The Moon is doing the most: It's a Super Blue Moon!
So-called "super" because it's slightly closer to Earth and "blue" because it's the second full moon in a month. It peaks at 9:36pm ET on Aug. 30 (0136 UTC on Aug. 31).
