Pakistan and Greece Strengthen Cooperation to Combat Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling

EU policy shipwreck

Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Hellenic Police of Greece have formalized their cooperation against human trafficking and migrant smuggling, according to Pakistan state media.

This agreement comes after a tragic shipwreck off Greece, where hundreds of individuals, including Pakistanis, lost their lives. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the FIA and Greek police will facilitate the exchange of vital information on human smugglers.

The collaboration aims to strengthen criminal investigations, promote capacity-building efforts, and combat transnational crimes. The FIA has already begun its campaign against illicit operators, leading to the arrest of Javed Hussain, a "most wanted" suspect involved in the Greek migrant shipwreck. Hussain had been wanted by the FIA in seven different cases.
