During their honeymoon in Greece, an Austrian couple tragically lost their lives when heavy rains caused their holiday home in Potistika to be swept away into the sea.

The devastating incident occurred on September 6th due to flash floods caused by Storm Daniel. The home, owned by Thanasis Samaras, was completely destroyed, resulting in the deaths of the couple from Graz. The Austrian foreign ministry has confirmed their identities through DNA tests.

The ministry expressed their profound sadness and condolences to the families, and the Austrian embassy in Athens is offering support to the grieving relatives. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis acknowledged the challenges faced by Greece, referring to the recent wildfires and now the floods, stating that the country is battling a "war in a time of peace."

To aid those affected and enhance the country's ability to respond to such natural disasters, Mr. Mitsotakis announced increased funding and the strengthening of the army, with the additional revenue generated from tourist taxes.
