BOAK: Europe's longest motorway in Greece

Northern Road Axis of Crete (BOAK)

The countdown has begun for the start of work on constructing Europe's longest motorway, the Northern Road Axis of Crete (BOAK), whose competition is entering the final phase.

Interest is also increasing regarding selecting a company that will undertake the construction and management of the highway from Chania to Heraklion, with an estimated cost of 1.75 billion euros, News Auto reported.

The decision signed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, gave the green light for the continuation of the process with the evaluation of the financial offers from the three participating agencies.

Ten days are given for any objections, after which the winner will be announced who will undertake the construction of the BOAK.

This specific project is one of our country's most essential concession projects. GEK Terna participates autonomously in the tender race, while the partnerships Aktor Perachorises – Mytilineos and Avax – EGIS – Meridiam are also vying for the project.

The funding for the 157-km-long BOAK provides for the participation of 600 million euros from the NSRF and 200 million from the Recovery Fund. In addition, the project includes the area Kissamos - Chania, 37.5 km long.

It is noteworthy that two more projects are planned for the completion of BOAK.

Aktor will execute the Neapolis - Agios Nikolaos section for 186 million euros, while the GEK Terna - Aktor Concessions - Intrakat partnership has undertaken the Hersonissos - Neapoli section with a budget of 290 million euros.
