A bear attacked and injured a shepherd on Wednesday afternoon in the "Agioi Apostoloi" area of the mountainous Merkada Community of Makrakomi Municipality, central Greece.

According to LamiaReport, the 63-year-old shepherd was looking for one of his animals near the barn, following his dogs that barked incessantly near a spring.

At that point, around 7 pm, according to him, he was attacked by the bear, which injured him quite seriously in the face before it ran away, probably because of the dogs he had with him.

His wife and other hunters in the area (wild boar hunting is allowed on Wednesdays) transported him to the Karpenisi Hospital, where he was stitched up.

LamiaReport also contacted the President of the Community, Dimitris Alexiou, who confirmed to us the injury of the 63-year-old. At the same time, according to hunters' testimonies, they had recently seen a bear with her cub roaming the eastern slopes of Velouchi.
