Former Greek prime minister and SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras visited the former prime minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev in the latter's hometown of Strumica on Monday.

In a Facebook post which includes a photograph of the meeting, Zaev wrote that "we recall our joint efforts and our contribution to peace and stability in the Balkans, and discuss the challenges facing the region today."

Zaev also noted that both the friendship between Greece and North Macedonia and his personal friendship with Tsipras "are turning to permanent, precious values."

The former main opposition leader was invited to visit North Macedonia by Zaev during a SYRIZA congress in 2022.

Tsipras and Zaev signed the historic Prespes Agreement in 2018, while SYRIZA was in power.
