US company acquires distribution rights to Greek series Milky Way

Fifth Season Takes Global Distribution Rights to Groundbreaking Greek Teen Drama ‘Milky Way’

Fifth Season, an American company behind the creation of TV series such as "Scenes From a Marriage" (HBO) and "Severance" (Apple TV+), as well as films such as "The Lost Daughter", acquired the global distribution rights to the Greek teen drama series "Milky Way," directed by Vasilis Kekakos.

"Milky Way" is an eight-part coming-of-age story centred on an unwanted pregnancy that's written and directed by Vasilis Kekatos, who won the Palme d'Or and the Queer Palm at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival for his short film "The Distance Between Us and the Sky."

Produced by Foss Productions in association with Play2Place and co-production with Greek broadcaster Mega TV, the show marks the first acquisition of a Greek series by Fifth Season, the production and distribution company formerly known as Endeavor Content.

“Milky Way” is set to launch in Greece on November 2 on Mega and Vodafone TV On Demand and will premiere its third episode on November 10 at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.

The 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival will occur from November 2 to November 12, 2023.

The Thessaloniki International Film Festival is honouring one of the most unique and daring voices of contemporary Greek cinema, beloved Greek director Nikos Perakis, by bestowing an honorary Golden Alexander award for his contribution to cinema. Also, the Festival is organizing a five-movie tribute that brings forth his outstanding work both as a film director and a production designer.

The Meet the Neighbors section is upgraded and expanded and will include a competition section with new awards and cash prizes.

It is an immense joy and honour for the Thessaloniki International Film Festival to welcome one of the most beloved singers of Greece, the renowned artist Haris Alexiou, as the ambassador of Agora, TIFF’s developmental branch.
