The strengthening of commercial and economic relations between Greece and Argentina is a "personal wager" for the Ambassador of Argentina to Greece, Luis Alfredo Azpiazu, as he said during a meeting with the president of the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry and of the Central Union of Chambers of Greece, Ioannis Masoutis.

Greeks and Argentinians have shared values and principles and established diplomatic relations for 150 years, the ambassador said during the meeting held at the TCCI on Wednesday, noting that bilateral trade transactions are low.

He pointed out that strengthening international trade and bilateral trade ties is high on the agenda of the new Argentine government. In this context, the exchange of business missions to and from Argentina will be pursued.

Moreover, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, is expected to visit South America and Argentina in the spring of 2024. In addition, thematic events are planned both in Argentina and in Greece for the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Argentina is the second most important economy in Latin America, while around 60,000 Greek expatriates live in the country.

The Azpiazu-Masoutis meeting was attended by the consul of Argentina, Nicolas Pasaman, and the first vice-president of the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Emmanuel Vlachogiannis.
