The post on the official page of the Vasilis Karras Friends Association:

“End of an era… The curtain fell on the greatest Greek folk singer of our time! Tonight, on the evening of December 24, 2024, Christmas Eve, our beloved Vasilis Karras left us forever.

“From today, the artist we all adored will be in the company of other greats, with Stratos, Stelios, Rita, Nikos Papazoglou, Dimitris Mitropanos… even Pantelis!

“The loss of Vassilis is great and irreparable, but we must find a way to overcome the shock and support his family! Vasilis Karras was more than a good singer; he was a great person who helped many people inside and outside of work..!

“He was giving and generous at work and life to his partners and the common people.

“Vasilis never sought self-promotion; he never put himself above colleagues, old and young. He was one of the artists who not only did not keep the world at a distance but sought contact with it.

“That is why, at his own urging, he was born and grew one of the biggest fan clubs in Greece, if not the biggest and its door and arms were always open!!! We used to spend the night in the dressing room, and when he saw us, he would say hello to my children!!!

“His embrace was equally open to new and old colleagues; it is no coincidence that he built strong friendships in the field!!!

“In the last year and a half, he fought a strong but uneven battle with cancer. He fought it very bravely, being fully aware of his condition from the first moment! Vassilis Karras may be gone, but he’s still here…! It will always be here!!!

“Through his songs and the memories we built all these years! We made the best trips with him and will always make them with him! We are proud and honoured that he gave us the right to meet and represent him!

“We make a sacred promise to continue to present the artistic work and the legacy he left us so that the next generations will get to know him through our experiences!!! Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones!

“His remains will be placed in a public viewing on Tuesday, 26/12, at the Holy Church of Agia Sophia in Thessaloniki from 09:00 to 1:00 pm.

“The burial will take place in his hometown, Kokkinohori Kavala, on Wednesday, 27/12, at noon with the anti-wreath family to support the Floga Children’s Association.

“GOOD REST AND GOOD REWARD MASTERS…”
