Tragedy Strikes as T-2 Training Aircraft Crashes in Kalamata

A two-seater T-2 training aircraft, launched by the 120th Air Training Wing, crashed a few minutes before 11 a.m. in the wider area.

Based on preliminary information, the crash was preceded by an explosion while two people were aboard the aircraft.

Rescue teams cordoned off the area of the crash, where there were no buildings, and were trying to locate the pilot.

The U.S.-made T-2 Buckeye first flew in the late 1950s and has served as the Greek air force’s main training plane for decades.
